Author & Editor

I’m a neurodivergent fantasy & literary author, as well as a freelance editor with over a decade of experience in the publishing industry.
I’ve been a sales rep, a national account coordinator, a bookseller, and a literary agent. However, my heart has always been with editing, which is how I found myself working at Dundurn Press, first as an assistant editor and then as an acquiring editor until I went freelance.
My publications can be found in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, The Antigonish Review, and upcoming in The New Quarterly. Awards include the Room Magazine Short Story Award & the Watty Award for Worldbuilding.

Are you having trouble finishing your manuscript? Have you completed your manuscript but can’t decide what route to go: self publishing, indie publishing, or querying literary agent to major publisher route? Are you trying to query but getting no results? Are you sick of rejections? Maybe you need a writing and accountability coach or tips and excercises to improve your writing. Every writer has different challenges and it is my job to help you through them. As your coach I can help you with your query letter and agent list, create writing schedules and an encouraging environment, develop non-fiction proposals, assist with the self publishing process, help you build your publication list, beta read and tailor your experiences to your personal goals and needs. You can email to book a free 15 minute phone consultation.
Big picture editing that focuses on structure, form, plot, character, pacing, and larger scale feedback for non-fiction or fiction manuscripts.
The manuscript is read with a general eye towards development and improvement. However, it is less in-depth and more affordable than a full developmental edit, while still providing constructive feedback on elements including style, tone, character, plot, pacing, and industry recommendations.
Copy editing focuses on mechanical aspects of writing such as spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure. I reference the Chicago Manual of Style and provide a style sheet for all copy edits.
This is the final stage of editing before sending something to print. I focus on consistency, accuracy, formatting, and typos, ensuring quality in the final text.
I am available for publishing, writing, and editing courses or speaking engagements. Companies I’ve worked with in the past include The Writers’ Union of Canada, the Ontario Library Association, the Mississauga Arts Council Breakthrough to Writers’ Success, and the Canadian Authors Association.
I enjoy working with authors at all different levels, whether new, emerging, midlist, or established and my broad range of experience in publishing from literary agent to sales and as an inhouse editor has helped inform my process. However, what truly sets me apart is my passion for storytelling, my empathy for writers, and my ability to listen and curate a book journey or editorial vision for each different author.

“Megan Beadle is a brilliant developmental editor who is knowledgeable, passionate about her craft, and wonderful to work with on both a personal and professional level. When it comes to her editing, she is highly skilled, fierce, kind, thorough, organized, and reliable. She is a gifted reader who saw my book project as I did, and then —through her edits — elevated my prose in only the way the best editors can. I can’t recommend her enough — I would be delighted at the opportunity to work with Megan again…”
ADELLE PURDHAM, author of I Don’t Do Disability and Other Lies I’ve Told Myself

“I had the pleasure of working with Megan for several years at Just Write Orillia. She was a regular contributor to my biweekly writers’ workshops, where she consistently provided thoughtful and insightful feedback to the other participants. Megan’s expertise in storytelling, character development, and grammar makes her an invaluable asset to any writing project. I highly recommend Megan’s editing services to anyone looking for a skilled and experienced editor.”
